Travertine Floor Cleaning, Honing, and Sealing
SaniCare Travertine Floors Cleaning & Grout Sealing Process
1. Clean and Polish
Our trained technicians use specially formulated powders and state-of-the-art equipment to polish the shine back into your travertine floors by removing microscopic scratches and marks.
2. Hone
Our special honing process removes deeper scratches that are visible to the naked eye. In this process, diamonds grind the stone to restore it to its original condition and a high gloss is visible.
3. Seal
In order to maintain the beauty of your newly polished travertine floors, our technicians can apply a protective seal that will shield your travertine floor and grout from scrapes and dirt.
Travertine Floors Sealing
We use high grade penetrating (impregnating) solvent based sealers to seal your travertine floors. Their function is to absorb into the pores of the stone and fill them up. Tight pores help keep spills on the surface so they won’t soak in. Although penetrating sealers are not bulletproof, they are essential in keeping some acidic spills on the surface to prevent acids from eating away the underlying layers. This ensures the resulting etch or dull spot can often be rehoned with the proper abrasives. Common liquids containing acids are citrus, vinegar, wine, soda, some perfumes and medicines.
While topcoat/surface sealers are appropriate for some types of natural stone, they ARE NOT RECOMMENDED for Travertine, Marble or Limestone.
Topcoat/surface sealers scratch and scuff much more easily than the stone itself. They will also flake, peel, and if applied too quickly can trap air bubbles and dirt underneath. This leads to a dirty hazy looking floor which most homeowners are unhappy within a short time.
Natural Stone Refinishing
Our natural stone refinishing method, which is very similar to our cleaning and honing process, involves a thorough process which removes visible scratches and dirt and grime from your travertine floors and countertops. This method is safe to use to restore your travertine, marble, slate, granite, and terrazzo floors.
